The Big Butterfly Count

The 16th - 31st July is this years Big Butterfly Count, the UK survey of the number of butterflies & day-flying moths are flapping around us.
Butterflies are good biodiversity indicators, they react quickly to changes in the local environment, and a decline in their numbers is an early warning for the well being of other wildlife

So how do you get involved? You just need 15 minutes on a sunny day (asking a lot at the moment, I know!) get yourself outside & count how many butterflies you see. Then visit www.bigbutterflycount.org to record your results. The website also has useful butterfly charts if you don't know your Meadow Brown from your Red Admiral & results from last years big count, as well as information on butterfly conservation.
